Delta outlined plans to build the 5 billion euro ($7billion) plant near the Netherlands' only existing nuclear powerstation in Borssele, as protesters outside its headquarterscalled for all nuclear power to be phased out in the country.
"Carbon dioxide emissions have to be reduced, and nuclearpower, as a known technology, is one of the better and saferways of doing it," Delta Chief Executive Peter Boerma said in interview devilrays . He added there was enough space around the Borssele site foreven more nuclear plants to be an option in the future tropicana field concerts . Bowing to pressure from environmentalists and the widerpublic, Dutch authorities phased out all nuclear power stationsexcept for the one in Borssele, which is owned by Delta andDutch peer Essent and is due to stay operational until 2033 tropicana field event .
